Yes, Reedsy is good for authors of all kinds, especially new authors. If you’re a self-published author then I highly suggest utilizing Reedsy for your next book.
Reedsy provides authors with all kinds of services and tools to finish your book. Not only is it a marketplace, but it also has formatting software and other similar features available. For me, formatting my books was one of the hardest parts of writing them. I usually write my books in Google Docs and it’s difficult to export the correct version of them for Amazon KDP.
Not only did Reedsy enable me to export the correct versions of my books, but it also helped me get the formatting of my chapters and paragraphs in the correct order. Reedsy only offers so much in its limited, free version-but it was enough for me to publish several books without spending a dime on formatting costs.
For new writers specifically, I think Reedsy is a great tool for after you’ve written your manuscript. It’ll help you convert it over into book format and get it ready for upload.

How to use Reedsy to format a book?
Formatting a book on Reedsy is easy. All you need to do is click on the My Books section of your dashboard, click Manage on the book you want to export and hit the Export button on the left side of the screen.
After that, you’ll get to choose the export settings you’d like to apply to your book (there are only a few to choose from) and then you can export it in the correct format.
Reedsy makes exporting a book extremely simple and that was the main reason I started using the platform. It’s something that Reedsy provides for free but many other marketplaces (Fiverr) charge you a pretty penny for.
Of course, you can pay for a freelancer on Reedsy to format your book for you if you’d like, but we’ll get to that later in this article.
Is Reedsy free?
Depending on what service you use, Reedsy is free. If you’re just looking for a tool to format and export your books then Reedsy can do that completely for free!
But if you’re looking to use Reedy’s marketplace of freelancers and graphic designers then it’s going to cost you a pretty penny. I looked into hiring an editor for my most recent book and it would’ve cost me $600 for a 35,000-word story. That’s a no for me.
I’ve used Reedsy completely for free to format all of my books. It just didn’t make sense to spend money on formatting services when I published my free book and other early books as a writer. Margins are slim for us new authors.
Can freelancers earn money on Reedsy?
Yes, there is a huge marketplace for freelancers of all kinds. From editors to graphic designers and more. Basically, any service you can provide an author can be marketed on Reedsy, and it’s not cheap!
While expensive freelancers are a pain for authors and their books, it’s a great side hustle for skilled freelancers who are good at what they do.
Does Reedsy own your work?
No, Reedsy does not own your work. Once you start writing your work and copyright is your own for your book. Reedsy is just a tool to help you improve on your book and make it look more professional. Professional books are more likely to get higher rankings on Amazon and more sales.
Use Reedsy and give it a try
I say all writers should give Reedsy a try and see if they like it. Even if it’s just for formatting a book, it’s definitely a simple and easy tool to use. It won’t help you create an audiobook, but it will help you with your e-books and print books.
